The Complexity of the Professional Environment

This week, I focused on contacting various neurologists in the DFW area. It proved to be very difficult for someone like me, a regular high school student, to get a doctor willing to do a brief research interview with me. I called about 23 offices and spoke to various receptionists, but I was redirected which only caused me to leave multiple voicemails. I did not get any calls back which really was surprising and brought my spirits down a little bit. But later on I realized that most neurologists were extremely busy since they are completely booked for months ahead. However, the bright side was that some offices were willing to take my information and pass it along to the doctor. By searching through LinkedIn, I attempted to connect with neurologists near me to not only grow my network but to also contact their offices. The most difficult aspect of this process was being patient and hoping that I would get a callback.

Additionally, using my contact list from last week, I do not intend to give up and I still want to call other doctors and check in with the offices who took my information. I have realized that calling professionals, especially doctors, is the most effective way to get a response because there really is no other option since emails are not listed. By the end of making so many calls I became very confident in speaking to professionals compared to my very first call; I am very proud of that improvement.
