After finishing my original work, there is little to do for the rest of the semester. We are now able to spend time reflecting on what we have accomplished so far. But we are also able to think about the expectations and requirements for the upcoming semester.. Primarily, a mentor was needed, which I have. From now on my primary focus will be devising and creating a final product.
After the original work, I evaluated what my biggest weakness is and it is time management. Although I had over a month to finish my original work, I did not start until about a week and a half before it was due. I need to learn how to balance my heavy workload from other classes. Thus, for the new semester, I want to focus on spending time creating my final product and creating something that has a greater impact. By having at least four months to create my final product I want to start ahead and have time to refine my idea. While I did enjoy conducting research in detail on the genetic component of epilepsy for my original work, I want to create a tangible product that has the potential to have an impact on the research field. Hopefully I will be able to contribute my time into my mentor’s research and help their study out.
Overall, after a successful semester in ISM, I am looking forward to presenting my research at the winter showcase and learn more about genetics through my mentorship.
